Operation and structure
The patented MeandRo system has been fully developed in-house at INTECO. The MeandRo-GA climate system consists of an expanded metal heat conductor, with a very open and fine structure. A copper pipe register has been soldered to this expanded metal. MeandRo-GA elements are inter-connected using flexible stainless steel hoses and then connected to the distribution pipes. The MeandRo-GA element is fitted to a construction made from support profiles. Depending on the requirements, cold as well as hot water could pass through the element as an energy carrier. Thermal insulation is placed on top of the element. Multiple small contact surfaces ensure effective and uniform heat transfer between the MeandRo element and the ceiling surface. In addition, heat is transferred via radiation. The cooled and/or heated ceiling therefore functions as radiant ceiling.
Capacity of the MeandRo-GA elements
External factors like sunlight, transmission data for windows, walls and roofs, and internal factors like heat development via e.g. other people, electrical equipment and lighting, are used to define cooling and heating capacity per area when designing the climate system. This also involves taking into account variable effects like fluctuating solar load, heat accumulation due to e.g. concrete constructions, extraction via light fixtures, etc. The designer also determines the benchmarks implemented for comfort. Inteco then uses the design benchmarks to determine the displacement rate for the ceiling surface area. In most cases, the MeandRo-GA ceiling comfortably meets the required capacity.
The effective heat exchange, and the large heat exchange surface, means cooling capacities of approx. 67 W/m2; (?T = 8K) can be realised.
The suspension structure is based on C profiles, which are placed in a single direction at a distance of approx. 1.2 m. A secondary support structure is then placed perpendicularly below these C profiles. They are fitted using special fitting clips. The suspension structure is suspended from the deck above every 1.2 x 1.2 m.
MeandRo-GA climate elements
• Expanded metal: Copper
• Meander: Copper pipe ø 12 x 1.0 mm, horizontally insulated on the expanded metal.
• Mounting: screwed directly into the suspension structure
• Series connection: Flexible oxygen diffusion-proof stainless steel hoses. All connections are clamped.
• In order to thermally insulate the plenum, a sealed mineral wool blanket is placed in top of the support structure.
Copper distribution pipes are provided to connect MeandRo-GA climate elements, which feature connection points for climate elements wherever necessary. The climate elements are set up in series and then connected to distribution pipes. The distribution pipes are then placed above C profiles. The water supply for distribution pipes must be connected by the W installer to the main piping system, and then activated.
The climate system must be filled with water before, during application of and during the drying process for stucco, and must be pressurised. After the MeandRo-GA elements have been installed, acoustic sprayers are placed and levelled.
